2 Sawdah bint Zam`ah, d. 647, widow, early believer,
marriage arranged in 619 by Muhammad's female servant Khawlah
3. Aishah bint Abu Bakr, d. 675, marriage arranged in 619 by Muhammad's female servant Khawlah)
4. Hafsah bint Umar, d. 665 widow of a man killed at Badr, married in 625
5. Zainab bint Khuzaimah, d. 626, divorced by Tufayl, widow of Ubaydah who died at Badr, married Muhammad in 625
6. Umm Salamah (Hind bint Abu Umayyah), d. 679, widow of Abu Salamah and mother of his seven children; married
Muhammad in 626
7. Zainab bint Jahsh, d. 641, divorced by Zaid who was Muhammad's adopted son, granddaughter of Abd al-Muttalib and
maternal side cousin of Muhammad (627)
8. Juwairiyah bint al- Harith, d. 671, a widow and a captive from the battle against the Banu al-Mustaliq. When she married
Muhammad in 627, he set free all the prisoners from her tribe.
9. Rayhanah bint Zaid, d.? before 632. Widow from the slaughter of the Banu Nadir tribe, Jewish. According to some sources, Muhammad married her in 627; according to others she was his concubine and did not convert to Islam.
10. Safiyah bint Huyayy, d. 672. 17 year old widow of Chief of the Jews of Khaibar. Married Muhammad and converted, 628.
11. Mary the Copt, d.637, concubine, in 628 she was a gift from Negus of Abbyssinia. She had son with Muhammad named Ibrahim; he died in 630.
12. Maymunah bint al Harith, d. 681. She was divorced by Masud, and then the widow of Abu Ruhm; Abbas, Muhammad's uncle, was her brother-in-law from first marriage. Married to Muhammad in 628.
13. Umm Habibah (Ramlah bint Abu Sufyan), d. 644. Widow of a Muslim Emigrant to Abyssinia, and daughter of one of the main figures of the Meccan opposition to Muhammad. Muhammad married her in 629, when she was in her 30s.
14. `Asma bint Numan. Her marriage to Muhammad was arranged by her father after his conversion in 628; she was a widow with a reputation for beauty. Muhammad s other wives were to prepare her for the wedding, and they told her when she met him to say, I seek God s protection from you. So he divorced her.
